Young Divers
Congratuations to 15 year old Nathan Adcock who completed his PADI Open Water course
on J une 15th 2008 down at Stoney Cove. Nathan was truly one of the best young students I have ever taught, and did amazingly well from the moment he got in the water.
His buoyancy was superb, he followed all the required safety precautions and showed a real understanding of safe diving practices. Although his parents were a little nervous about him diving at the cove, Nathan loved every minute of it, and he even bought me a bunch of flowers for teaching him. He is off in a couple of weeks to go wreck diving in Cornwall with our friends at Looe Divers so we wish him a great dive trip.
Well done Nathan, lets hope you go on to be a great instructor one day.
In August 2009 we once again hosted the scuba diving activity for the Space Camp events held by Leicester University. Space camp is for 13 to 15 year olds and Senior Space School is for 16 to 18 year old. Each week involves students from all over Europe staying at Leiceseter Uni and taking part in various space related activities. Scuba Diving is one activity designed to give students a feeling of weightlessness. Students undertake an initial PADI Discover Scuba programme to give them confidence with the dive kit, and then they take part in a team activity.
This year the teams competed in building an Escape Shuttle underwater, following the crash landing of their spaceship on Epsilon II. Unfortunately the instructions to build Fox Cub, the space shuttle got destroyed in the crash landing, so teams had to try to follow a crumpled picture to build it correctly. Im not sure who enjoyed it more, the kids or the crew!!
We have once again been asked to host Space Camp 2010 following the success of the previous three years. Lets hope this time the instructions survive!
