PADI Speciality Courses

PADI Offer a range of stand alone certifications that enhance your dive skills in one specific area of diving that interests you. These are called Speciality Certifications and are often completed by divers where they want to spend an entire course focussing on a specialised skills that suit their needs.

There is a whole range of speciality courses available, some of which we are not able to deliver locally, due to course requirements. However, throughout our dive trips in the year these are often delivered then.

Locally at Stoney Cove, we can offer you the following speciality courses

Peak Performance Buoyancy. This consists of 2 dives over one day and concentrates on fine-tuning your buoyancy control in the water to enable you to be more relaxed in the water which helps to support better air consumption. The course includes exercises in the water to help you hover, control ascents and descents, fining techniques and streamlining yourself in the water. We will also take a look at your kit configuration and how this may be affecting your diving.

Dry Suit. This consists of a some independent study, a short theory sesions, a pool session to practice dry suit skills and 2 open water dives. Diving in a dry suit gives you greater comfort and all year round diving, but there are some skills that you will need to learn specific to dry suit diving. You cannot hire a dry suit from any dive school without a Dry Suit Speciality certification.

Underwater Navigation. This course consists of 3 open water dives over 1 - 2 days, or over a period of evenings inthe summer. The course involves more complex navigation techniques enabling you to be more confident in the water when diving without the aid of a dive guide. Being able to navigate confidently underwater is an essential dive skill required for most diving activities and this course really does make you think and trust your compass.

Wreck Diver. This consists of 4 open water dives which are done over 2 days. This course covers the hazards of wreck diving, wreck penetration techniques and special wreck diving equipment requirements. A demanding course which teaches you a number of wreck diving techniques aimed at reducing risks involved in diving wrecks around the World.

Night Diver. This consists of 3 night dives which can be done over over 2-3 Wednesday late night dive nights when the nights become darker. Night diving is an exciting experience but without proper training can result in an frightening experience. To dive in the dark requires specialist training and skills and additional equipment to keep you and your buddy safe. This course teaches you how to dive safely but how to enjoy the fantastic creatures that come out and play after the hours of darkness.

Multi-level computer diving. This consists of 2 dives over one day and is ideal for those changing over to dive from a convential RDP to using a dive computer. This course includes the correct use of a dive computer, dive planning techniques, emergency situations, looking at different types of computers available, understanding your dive computer.

Search and Recovery. This consists of 4 open water training dives over a period of 2 days and includes techniques on problem solving and identifying hazardous situation with recoverin objects, specialist equipment training such as the use of lift bags, limited visibility diving and navigation techniques, seach patterns and safe lifting processes. Great for all you would be salvage operators!

Deep Diver. This consists of 4 dives and takes a serious and steady approach to training you to dive to depths of no greater than 40m. Delivered over at least 2 days, this looks at correct planning of deeper dives and the hazards involved, additional equipment considerations, safety stops and decompression procedures, ascent and descent techiques, recompression procedures etc. Due to water temperatures locally, this course in the autumn, winter and spring will require dry suits to be worn.

Equipment Speciality. This course is totally dry and based in the workshop/classroom. This is really great course a must for anyone with their own dive kit, or for those newly qualified divers who want further advice and guidance on diving equipment. This course teaches you basic equipment care and maintenance skills, how to look after your dive kit, emergency field repairs to keep you diving, equipment types and equipment configuration. This is a one day course, which still provides you with a padi speciality certification.

Nitrox - Enhanced Air Diver. This course is for those of you who find that you feel you want to increase bottom time safely without the hassle of buying twins or expensive additional equipment. Tne Enhanced Air Speciality course, qualifies you to dive on Nitrox upto a maximum of 40% Oxygen content using your existing regulator system, but requiring a dedicated cylinder. The course consists of a short half day theory session, following some home study. The crew kit includes your Nitrox manual and nitrox dive tables. 2 optional dives are available for an additional cost. Ideal for liveaboard holidays where diving on air every day leaves you feeling tired. Minimum qualification is open water diver and you must be at least 15 years of age.

Master Scuba Diver - The PADI Master Scuba Diver rating is the highest non-professional level you can achieve in your diving education which denotes superior achievement and profficiency in your diving. To achieve this accolade you are required to be rated as a PADI Rescue Diver and hold at least 5 Speciality Diving certifications.
