Health and Safety Regulations for the UKs Recreational Dive Industry

All dive schools in the UK are required, by law, to comply with the Diving At Work Regulations 1997

Whenever you are receiving instruction from your dive school, the dive school is required to provide the following

a) A surface support person who completes a log of you entering and exiting the water with your air and dive time
b) Your Instructor in the water
c) A Rescue Diver, or another dive Professional to help support you in the water and look after you while the instructor may be busy with other students.
d) A written record of your dive profile and other relevant information
e) A written risk assessment of the dive site
f) An operations log for the course you are doing covering all the key information about how the water aspects of the course will be organised.
g) An Emergency Action Plan for the dive location.

If your dive school is not providing this on every dive you are under instruction on, then they are breaking the law and you are not adequately protected or cared for in the water.

All dive schools are required to have up to date Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance by law - have you checked they have it?

All Professional Dive Crew are required to have an annual HSE Dive Medical and hold a current first aid certificate.
